While Virgin America and US Airways join the growing list of airlines to provide Internet access, Air Canada has quietly ended its access trial period.
Air Canada was offering Wi-Fi access through Gogo Inflight Internet on select flights. The trial period ended last week and the airline has not announced if or when they will be offering the service again.
Meanwhile, Virgin America has recently started offering Internet access with Gogo on their entire fleet. Prices start at $5.95 for 90 minutes. They also offer 30-day passes for $29.95.
By June 1, 2010, US Airlines will offer Gogo Inflight Internet service on all 51 of their A321s. Prices start at $4.95 for up to 90 minutes for Internet access from a laptop, netbook or mobile device.
Using ground-based cellular towers with signals pointed skyward, Gogo Inflight Internet provider allows for coverage for select flights flying over the continental U.S. and about 100 miles beyond the border.
Aircraft are equipped with an air-to-ground link using AirCell broadband. If you use 30Mbps Internet access on the ground you will notice that your Inflight service is slower.
Other airlines using Gogo on select flights include Air Tran, American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines.
