Poll Reveals Canadians Are Cheap Dates

Love is on everyone’s lips as Valentine’s Day approaches and FlightNetwork’s latest poll examined Canadians’ opinions on low-cost ways to romance one’s sweetheart. It turns out Canadians are both ingeniously frugal and hopelessly romantic.

For most, it was all about saving, snuggling, and skating. From free walks in the snow to home-cooked dinners, for participants, showing their love is all about the company over the cash. Walks through parks and skating on free outdoor rinks were the top suggestions for celebrating Valentine’s Day on a budget.

Respondents ranked romantic activities in different cities across Canada:

Okay, I know this has nothing to do with the topic but was so happy to find a Canadian travellers forum I thought I'd comment with my latest challenge.

Because of my location (google map it; Fort Frances, Ontario) we are as remote as it gets. Across the bridge is International Falls, Minnesota (INL); the largest airport is 300 km south in Duluth, Minnesota (DLH) with flights to Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Phoenix & Orlando. I'm running three marathons this spring in Toronto, Halifax & Ottawa. Last year I took the bus and hated it. Flying from here costs a fortune, but am wondering if I should Greyhound it to Thunder Bay and fly from there. My friend wants to tag along, she lives on the US side of the bridge here. Now she has one of those passport cards/enhanced drivers licenses Minnesota just came out with. I need a full passport if I wanted to fly from Duluth; I am curious if we require the same thing? A friend from Minnesota who frequently travels to Windsor says there is an identification requirement but not a passport when flying WITHIN Canada. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks?
P.S.: Advice on travelling from Toronto-Halifax…is the VIA Rail trip worth it as far as scenery? Thanks!!

I know we always say that whatever it is may be, as long as it comes from the heart it's worth it. I guess people in Canada are just wise and take efforts in how to make an inexpensive but sweet date.
