Want to score the perfect day with your brood in Calgary? There’s lots to see, but with careful planning it’s a cinch to hit up the city’s top attractions, while simultaneously toting tots. Here’s a look at the best ways to spend a family-friendly day in Calgary.

Breakfast at Red’s in Ramsay

Hungry families tuck into eggs benny, mile-high sandwiches and hearty hash plates at this eclectic diner. Boasting a children’s menu, high chairs and booster seats, wee-ones are most welcome here.

Early Morning: TELUS Spark

Canada’s newest science centre in over 25 years sure knows how to fuel a child’s imagination. The innovative facility offers hands-on activities for kids of all ages. Let little-ones loose in the Creative Kids Museum, where you’ll find a tricked out toddler area, plus immersive tables for water play and magnetics. Ignite older kid’s sense of discover while exploring interactive galleries such as Earth & Sky and the Open Studio.

Late Morning: Calgary Zoo

Located next door to TELUS Spark, you’ll find native Canadian species such as bison, caribou and bears, in addition to Australian and African animals at the Calgary Zoo. If your brood is still wild after sussing out the enclosures, try taming them at the expansive playground.

Deli Lunch

Just across the rive from the Zoo lies Spolumbo’s, a casual Italian deli. Offering savoury sausages, soup, salads and thick Italian sandwiches, portions here are generous and perfect for packing up and enjoying riverside if the weather’s warm.

Early Afternoon: Downtown

Get a bird’s eye view of Calgary’s landmarks from the top of the Calgary Tower. After braving a walk across the glass floor on the Observation Deck, saunter over to The CORE, a downtown shopping center that houses Devonian Gardens, a tropical home for over 500 trees and shrubs. The gardens have a fantastic indoor playground and lots of room for burning off energy.

Late Afternoon: Market Mall

This family-friendly shopping center boasts Calgary’s biggest mall playground. Bordered by comfy seating for caregivers, the 1,800 square foot transportation themed play space is a fantastic reward for young ‘ens after they’ve dutifully hit the shops.

Dinner at Notable

Tucked away in the residential neighbourhood of Bowness, Notable serves up comforting, classic fare using choice ingredients. Their burgers are out of this world, as are the daily rotisserie meats. Those with food intolerances will find several options and a kitchen willing to make substitutions. While reservations are recommended, half the restaurant is reserved for walk-ins.
