Flights to Augsburg
Augsburg, Germany is a beautiful and historic college town in the south-west of Bavaria that should not be missed. During the reign of Emperor Augustus in 15 B.C., Roman investment in this area made Augsburg the most powerful military camp in the new empire under Augustus.
Commonly known as Fuggerstadt due to Fuggers residing there, Augsburg has plenty of attractions to keep the avid sightseer busy. These include the The Dome of the Holy Virgin, a beautiful cathedral dating back to 823 AD. Also not to be missed is the world s oldest social settlement, the Fuggerei. The Fuggeri is still home to 200 impoverished Catholic tenants who pay rent of one Euro per year to live in the estate. Their annual Christmas market is an event well worth attending. Other attractions include the Town Hall (built in 1620), the Bell Tower (built in 1182) and the Bishop s Residence (built in 1750).
An inside joke to many Ausburgers are the vast amount of lost tourists in this city with endless side streets and alleyways. Save yourself the time and trouble and use the convenient streetcar, or tram, system which will allow you to move throughout the city with relative ease.
