Flights to Aurangabad
Aurangabad is located
in the northern part of the state of Maharashtra, in the western region of
India. Records taken in 2004, show that 682,000 people live within the city. It
was founded in 1610 by Malik Ambar, Aurangabad then known as Khidki,
meaning 'window'. The heritage of Aurangabad is linked with different
Muslim rulers and dynasties of India. With the Deccan being its window, people
entering or leaving the city would pass through the gates' threshold. Throughout
Aurangabad, a numerous amount of monuments and temples have been erected displaying
different periods of dynasties. This city is the true definition of India,
producing silks and textiles for thousands of years as a main export.
The city is known for
its medieval monuments and cultural heritage sites. In Aurangabad, Bibi-ka-Makbara
is a prized possession; a tomb that was a double of the Taj Mahal. Two of the
World Heritage Sites are located here in Aurangabad, with temples servicing the
religions of Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism. To capture some of the area’s
finest sights, take a scenic tour bus to Ajanta. Buddhist caves in Ajanta are
well preserved, and are lined with world-renowned fresco paintings on the
interior walls. The city has numerous gardens throughout its borders, many of
them hosting open-air restaurants. Some of India's most traditional foods are
found in these garden restaurants. Within the downtown shopping district are
many local textile stores. The most priceless souvenir from any trip is one
that allows you to keep a prominent piece of the culture: many Indian textile
stores offers fine silks at less than wholesale prices. Aromas and music fill
the air of the cultured, clean, and humble city of Aurangabad.
