Archaeologist findings set settlement in Bristol, England back to
about 60,000 years ago. By the 14th
Century this was England s 3rd largest medieval town and the
starting point for many important voyages.
Museums and art galleries beautifully capture this history and are home
to collections of natural history, archaeology, ceramics, arts and local
glassware. The dialect of English spoken by some here is known locally as
Bristolian or Brizzle which, among other things, adds an l sound to any word
ending in o or a. This still vibrant city now has a population of about 442,000
making it one of the 50th largest counties in England. A diverse
city, it offers culture, thrills and relaxation giving it something for
everyone. Visit historic houses and churches
or art galleries and museums. Relax in
one of the city s inner green spaces or visit the rich nearby countryside. Visit England s oldest inhabited castle, many
ancient churches or the burial ground of King Arthur. The city also boasts more
than 57 different theatre groups and contains several beautiful theatres, some
dating back to the 1700s. For the more
active members of your group there is riding, karting, skiing, skating, cycling
and canoeing. Rock climbing and mountain
biking are yours if you re up for the adventure, or perhaps a cycling tour or
hot air balloon flight are more to your liking.
If you like to experience things that are one in a lifetime why not be a
zoo keeper for a day, or drive a steam train all on your own? Many unique experience adventures await you
in Bristol. Come and live your dreams.
