Fort Myers Flights Guide

Set along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River and within easy driving distance of the Gulf of Mexico's scenic beaches, Fort Myers inspired many of America's rich and famous to come here to find some peace and quiet. Decades later, you can still visit the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford and enjoy the natural beauty and great weather that drew them here.

From manatee parks to butterfly gardens, deep-sea fishing spots, golf courses, and eco-tours along the coast, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will find lots to do and see in Fort Myers. Those content to simply explore the city at their own pace can move on from flights to bicycles and pedal away through Fort Myers' tree-lined avenues. Nowhere does the City of Palms live up to its name more than on McGregor Boulevard, which is lined with nearly 2,000 palm trees. Even if sightseeing isn't your cup of tea, be sure to take a trip down this impressive stretch whose 'greening' was a personal project of Thomas Edison.

For a change of scene from Fort Myers, day trips to the islands of Sanibel and Captiva are cheap and easy to book even at the last minute.

Arriving in Fort Myers

The airport building consists of one main terminal and three concourses, B,C, and D. After your flight arrives at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), you can use any of the following ground transportation options to travel to Fort Myers. For more details on any of them, consult the airport website.

Public Transit: Most bus services operated by LeeTran run between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and will take you from the airport to Daniels Parkway and U.S. 41, where you can transfer to other routes. Buses on Route 50 will take you directly from the airport to downtown Fort Myers' Summerlin Square, where you can easily access other downtown destinations.

A one-way ticket will cost you about $1.25 USD but you can also get an all-day pass for approximately $3.50 USD as this will save you the hassle of buying additional tickets for transfers. Senior citizens are eligible for discounts on all fares.

Hotel Shuttle: Plenty of Fort Myers hotels, like Hampton Inn and Hyatt Place, offer their guests complimentary shuttle services to and from the airport. You can find a complete list of hotels on the airport's website and if you've already booked a stay at one of these, using their shuttles is the easiest way to travel into the city.

Taxi: MBA Airport Transportation LLC provides cab services at the airport and taxis can be found just outside the terminal exits. Passengers should bear in mind that fares are fixed based on designated zones and a 10% fuel surcharge is added to all fares. These rates are applicable for one taxi carrying up to three passengers and you will need to pay an extra $10 USD charge for every additional person. One-way trips to the city cost between $25-50 USD, depending on which zone you travel to.

Car Rental: Companies like Alamo, Enterprise, and Thrifty have kiosks at the airport's Rental Car Service Center, located at the lower level of the parking garage. Passengers booking vehicles with Advantage will have to take a free shuttle service from the garage to the company's off-site rental facility. A phone at the pick-up spot can be used to contact Advantage and request a shuttle.

Other: Several operators provide pre-arranged shared-ride shuttle and limousine services from the airport to Fort Myers and other cities in the area. Information on these is available at the Ground Transportation Information Booth outside Door 3 of the terminal's lower level.
