The community of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has a population of 7,969 (2001 census). Incorporated in 1973, the town is made up of the former town of Happy Valley and the Local Improvement District of Goose Bay and is also home to the largest air force base in northeastern North America, CFB Goose Bay - established during the second world war.
The city of Goose Bay also boasts many local attractions -- Historical sites such as The Labrador Heritage Society Museum, The Moravian Church, Birch Island,and the Mini Museum, Outdoor attractions such as Mount Shana, Muskrat Falls, Minipi Wilderness Resort and many Military attractions including The Labrador Military Museum, Commonwealth Cemetery, Pease Street Bunkers, Airplane Monuments, and the Pine Tree Lookout.
