Hanover is a mid-sized city in
the north of Germany, situated on the river Leine. Hanover is well known all over Europe for
hosting many annual events such as the Hanover Fair
and the CeBIT. In addition,
Hanover is home to the annual Schutzenfest Hannover, the world's largest
Marksmen's Fun Fair, and the Oktoberfest Hannover, which is the second
largest Oktoberfest
in the world.
There are many
different types of attractions throughout Hanover to keep travelers busy. A must-see is the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen which houses
several different gardens including the Great Garden (European baroque
garden), the Berggarten (European
botanical garden) and the Georgengarten (English landscape
garden).
Also worth a
visit is the Hanover Zoo,
one of the most spectacular zoos in Europe. In fact, the Hanover Zoo received
the Park Scout Award for the third year running in 2008.
If historical site are more
your speed, do not miss the many points of interest in the Old Town. In the centre are the impressive Market
Church and Old Town Hall. Also nearby
are the Leibniz House, the Nolte House, and the Beguine Tower. Visit the the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library to view
the historic Leibniz Letters which have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007.
