The city has a rich history dating back before the Civil War. Cotton & the railroad account for its quick growth in the early years. During the Civil War the city was taken over by the Union Army & later acted as their headquarters due to its strategic location.
In the 1950 s the city s future would be forever changed when a German rocket scientist was brought to the Redstone Arsenal to develop what would become the US space program. Huntsville is known as the Rocket Capital of the World . The Marshall Space Flight Center is also located in the city where you can become astronauts for a day & experience weightlessness & training activities at the US Space Camp.
