Kahului Airport (OGG) on the island of Maui is Hawaii's second busiest after Honolulu, serving international, domestic, and inter-island flights. OGG is one of Hawaiian Airlines' major hubs and is also served by carriers such as Delta, American, Continental, Go!, United, and US. Air Canada and WestJet have direct flights to Maui from Vancouver but you can also get cheap tickets from other destinations like Calgary and Edmonton.






Although the island enjoys warm, sunny weather for most of the year, it is best to avoid booking flights to Maui from November to March as this is the wettest period and there are also frequent storms throughout the season. How much rain you encounter also depends on the island's geography and it is completely natural to experience heavy rain on one side of the island while another part enjoys blue skies and sunshine.
To get cheap airline tickets and good weather, time your visit for the shoulder season in May just before the summer holiday rush. If you're keen on travelling to Maui and the neighbouring islands during the Aloha Festival from September to October, book your tickets as soon as you can, since Maui flights become very expensive closer to the festival.
Most flights to Maui will bring you to Kahului Airport's (OGG) main terminal which deals with international traffic. For passengers with connecting flights to Hawaii's other islands, a commuter terminal is located in a smaller building off the main terminal or you could also travel to Kapalua Airport (JHM) in West Maui or Hana Airport (HNM) in East Maui which are smaller regional airports dealing with inter-island commuter traffic.
Public Transit: Buses are your cheapest travel option from the airport and Routes 35 and 40 connect the airport to the island's most popular areas. Services run every 90 minutes and one-way tickets cost about $1 USD. Keep in mind that the luggage allowance is restricted to one medium suitcase and one carry-on bag.
Airport Shuttle: Shuttle services are run by SpeediShuttle which operates an airport counter from 9 a.m. until the last flight for the day arrives. If your flights to Maui are scheduled to land at any time between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m. the following day, you will need to make alternative arrangements. Fixed fares are charged depending on the destination you're headed to, and this includes a minimum booking fee of $9 USD.
Taxi: A taxi stand is located at the terminal exit in front of the baggage claim area. Fares are metered and average $20 USD for a one-way ride to Wailuku or $150 USD for longer trips to destinations like Kapalua.
Courtesy Shuttle and Chauffeured Car Service: If your hotel provides a courtesy pick-up service or if you've booked a chauffeured car to meet your flight, make your way to the designated pick-up zone outside the terminal's baggage claim area. Chauffeured car rates average $24 USD to Wailuku while trips to Kapalua can cost up to $60 USD.
Car Rental: Rental companies are located at the end of the concourse behind the terminal's baggage claim area and include Avis, Dollar, Hertz, and Enterprise amongst others. Taking into account Maui's popularity as a tourist destination, it is best to book your rental car at least 48 hours before your flight to ensure that you can get the type of vehicle you want.
