Nice is a picturesque city, located in the
south of France on the Mediterranean coast, in between Marseille and Genoa, Italy.
Nice is blessed with sunny, temperate climate and rich blue-green sea,
making it the leading tourist centre on the French Riviera.
Nice is a city
that was designed for strolling and people watching. The best place to start your walk through
this beautiful city is the Promenade des Anglais, which runs along
the Baie des Anges. During the 18thy
century, wealthy English travellors began spending winters in Nice, attracting
with them an influx of beggars. The
homeless were soon given jobs building this magnificent promenade that is a
symbol of the city today. Check out the Hotel Negresco on the promenade, built in 1913.
Also take a walk through the small street running
parallel to the Promenade des Anglais, where you will find a pedestrian zone
with many restaurants, cafes, and small shops.
Nice also has several squares that are a great place to rest your weary
feet and enjoy some ice cream. These
include the Place Mass na, with Italian architecture,
the Place Garibaldi,with it Garibaldi
statue at the centre, and the Place du Palais where the Palais de Justice (Law courts) of
Nice is located.
If you need a
break from the sun, try one of Nice s many museums. Specifically, the Musee Massena,
the Musee d"Art Moderne,
the Musee des Beaux-Arts,
or the Musee Matisse.
