Upon
the Adriatic Sea is the capital city of Pescara (population 122,402 as of 2007).
This city is the most prosperous beach town in the province of Pescara. The
Ambruzzo region is well known for its fishing and seafood. Pescara, meaning
Abounding in Fish gives this city a fitting title. Due to World War II, much
of its architecture is no longer in place giving birth to a modern city of
youth and nightlife.
In all of Italy there is no region that compares to
the beach life and seaside resorts of Abruzzo. Be sure to head down to the
beach and enjoy some sunshine on the white sandy beaches that stretch for miles.
If all that sun is making you hot, grab a classic gellati ice cream from a
local Lido on the beach. Lidos are found on the beach containing
an all in one approach to food. Most Lidos have a seafood restaurant
attached, bar, ice cream parlor, and a playground which stay open year round. Surprisingly enough, these Lidos turn
into lively discos at night!
Take in some scenery by going for a stroll through the downtown shopping
district, where many fashionable boutiques can be found. Start at Corso Umberto
and take the trek through the rectangular city districts. This rectangle path
will be your main sightseeing and shopping path. With a University in town,
you re guaranteed to have a great nightlife experience, separating Pescara from
other Italian cities.
