Pietersburg (2001 population 302,957) is located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, and was founded in 1886 honour of Voortrekker leader Petrus Jacobus Joubert.  In 1901, the town was occupied by the British, and previously constructed government buildings, arms factories and even the newspaper houses were destroyed.  The town became a city in 1992, and is now a major urban center.  Lying upon the Sterkloop River, it is the service and trading center for the surrounding areas of the province.
