Located in
northwestern Greece is the city of Preveza, with a population of 16,321 people
as of 2001. Preveza is also the areas prefecture, lying aside the Thesprotian Mountains,
Ionian Sea and two major rivers: Louros and Aherontas. The ancient city of Nikopolis
is 7 km away where the Roman emperor Octavian August won his battle over
Cleopatra and Antony. This section of Greece has thousands of years of history,
with the famous Castle of Preveze at the top of the city. When the first
settlers came here they saw the same sights you witness today: stunning
landscapes with natural beauty. The whole prefecture of Preveza has this same
tranquil atmosphere, with its historic architecture surrounding canyons and
rivers.
Boasting a mix of
peacefulness with a lively atmosphere makes Preveza an enjoyable place to visit
for everyone. The city is a sight to see in itself; all of its balconies filled
with flowers, and the lush vegetation throughout the city's hillside. Take a
walk down the cobblestone streets and stop in at one of many traditional tavernas
or ouzeries. Festivals with theatrical plays and live music take place
in the summer months, which is a great way to see some local celebrations. The
port is also a major attraction for yachts and boats pulling into the mainland,
looking for a sample of Preveza's atmosphere. While on the Harbourfront, have a
bite to eat at one of Preveza's classic Greek restaurants. Listen to waves
crashing into shore, with a perfect Mediterranean sunset behind-- one of the
best ways to dine out for some of the world's best seafood. Throughout the
prefecture is natural beauty for you to discover, and in every direction you
look is an adventure waiting to happen. For the outdoors person, Preveza is a
place where all of nature's hidden treasures are found.
