Ideally situated on British Columbia's beautiful North Coast, only a short distance from the Queen Charlotte Islands and Ketchikan Alaska, Prince Rupert is easily accessible by air, rail, cruise ship, ferry, car, or rv. The citiy known as "The City of Rainbows" has a population of approximately 15,302 i(2001 census) and is recognized today as being one of the worlds largest leading ports, exporting billions of dollars in coal, grain, lumber and potash every year. The Prince Rupert harbour is the third largest ice-free harbour in the world and the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system carries visitors up the coast to ports along the Alaska panhandle.
The city is the cultural centre of the Tsimshian speaking First Nations people and it is interesting to note that Prince Rupert is closer to Japan than to Vancouver!
Area attractions include Whale watching, Cow Bay; restored 1930's buildings situated alongside the harbour walkway, Sea Fest; held in June and knows as Prince Rupert's major community"Blow Out", Butze Rapids; the cities very own reversing tidal rapids and trail hiking, Oliver Lake; home to the exotic bonsai trees which are over 125 years old and Roosevelt Park.
