With a population of 367, 995 (2007) Raleigh is the second largest city and the capital city of the state of North Carolina. It is nicknamed the city of oaks due to the many oak trees growing throughout the city. Raleigh was designed as a state capital in the late 1700 s and it still has many of its architecture of its beginning especially in Olde Raleigh. Olde Raleigh is the downtown area of the city that is home to the capital building, a convention centre, museum, and many shops and restaurants on its main street. The rest of the city has many different neighborhoods that include homes, universities, parks, theatres, shopping centers and parks. Raleigh has many activities that can be done for free including the majority of their museums and art galleries.
