When to Go and Weather

Regina has distinct weather conditions through all four seasons —hot summers, very cold winters, and milder temperatures in spring and autumn. The city gets most of its rain from June to August so remember to come equipped with an umbrella or rainproof jacket if this is when you're visiting. Winter temperatures average -10°C to -15°C, and unless you're flying in for the Carnival, it's best to avoid booking airline tickets to Regina during this time.

Arriving in Regina

Regina International Airport (YQR) is a small airport and transport options from the airport are fairly limited. For details on the information listed below, visit the airport website.

Airport Shuttle: Airport shuttles are run by the Roaming Buffalo Shuttle Service which takes passengers to destinations in Regina as well as Moose Jaw. Trips to downtown Regina cost about $15 CAD.

Hotel Shuttle: For hassle-free travel from the airport, book yourself into a hotel which offers a courtesy pick-up service. Call ahead and inform the hotel about your flight number and expected arrival time so that you won't have a long wait to get into town. The pick-up area for hotel shuttles is located outside the exits on the terminal's main floor.

Taxi: Cabs can be found right outside the airport's exits and there is a dispatcher available if you need any assistance. You can also book in advance by calling one of the cab companies prior to your flight to Regina and giving them your arrival details. Depending on your destination, a trip to downtown Regina will set you back about $15-$20 CAD.

Car Rental: The car rental companies located at the airport include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. You will be charged an additional $3 CAD if you hire a car at the airport so you may want to book one in advance to avoid this fee. The rental parking lot is opposite the terminal exit gates so no matter which company you book with, you won't have far to walk to collect your car.

Other: If you'd like to travel in style, hire a limo with either Diamond or Phantom Limousines. Booking in advance is always advisable as the companies do not have counters at the airport.
