lie s the island of Rhodes (2001 population 117,007).The largest of the Dodecanese Islands and

not known how the statue was built, around 300 BC, but it is believed to

Alexandria, and passed through many different hands, through many different
wars over time.Around the 3rd Century
BC, the city developed into a maritime, commercial and cultural center and its
coins were in circulation almost everywhere in the Mediterranean.Rhodes was known as a city of philosophy,

with Rome, and became an educational center for Roman noble families, and was
especially noted for its teachings of rhetoric.
