Situated in the south of Holland the city of Rotterdam
and located just off of the coast of the river Nieuwe Maas. The name of the city comes from the dam in
the Rotte muddy water river, and the dam was built in 1260 on the river
bank. Rotterdam is home to Europe s
largest and busiest ports, and is second busiest in the world after
Shanghai.
There are plenty of events that go on in the city and
many of them are family and tourist friendly.
In February there is the Museums Night,
which is a special event for everyone to go and enjoy the displays and exhibits
at the museums for a lower price than usual.

During the month of July there is the Zomercarnaval. Held in the centre of the city these
festivities are influenced by the Caribbean style and the sights and activities

this event is a must seen if you are traveling near Rotterdam in July.
