Sioux Falls, South Dakota combines
nature, history and culture. With
attractions such as the Sertoma Butterfly House, the Strawbale Winery (so named
not because the wine comes from straw but because the building is made of
strawbales) and the United States Geological Survey s Centre for Earth
Resources Observation and Science, there is literally something here for
everyone.
Several art galleries and sources
for theatre, dance and music provide culture and variety. Check out the Northern Plains Gallery displaying
original art by American Indians from the northern plans region or the Prairie
Star Gifts and Gallery. The South Dakota
Symphony Orchestra is here to entertain you from September through May and
features a mix of contemporary and classical compositions. The Olde Towne Dinner Theatre provides year
round entertainment and a unique experience that is worth planning for.
For those who like to see history
up close the Buffalo Ridge Cowboy Ghost Town is a sure pleaser, or check out
the Delbridge Museum of Natural History which features more than 100 mounted
species.
The Sioux Falls were created some
14,000 years ago with the last ice age.
Over the years many native tribes inhabited the area and some of the
burial grounds still remain. Though settlers found their way here early on it
was the advance of the railroad that really brought people to the area. The population now reaches just over 150,000.
Many events and festivals figure
regularly in the city s activities including an annual art walk, Festival of
Bands, LifeLight Festival, Party in the Park, the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues
Festival and the Sioux Empire Fair. Come
and see what the Falls have in store.
