Taiwan has a largely tropical climate — winters are cool, averaging 8°C, and summers are humid at 30°C. The best time to visit is between September and November when there's less likelihood of rain and accommodation rates are lower after the summer crowds have left. June to August is typhoon season so although the eastern coast of Taiwan is beautiful during this time, the weather is not completely reliable.
While the atmosphere leading up to the festival is vibrant, most of Taiwan shuts down for the first three days of Chinese New Year so visit before or after if you want to join in the celebrations.
