Moncton is named after Robert Monckton, the British military commander who captured Fort Beausejour in 1755 and who then oversaw the Acadian deportation. The city is at the geographic centre of the Maritime Provinces. Because of this, and also because Moncton has been the railway and transportation hub for the Maritime Provinces for years, the community has been nicknamed "Hub City".
Moncton tourist attractions include, The Moncton Golf and Country Club (Riverview), Tidal Bore Petitcodiac River, The Capitol Theatre, Moncton Market, Magnetic Hill and several renound golf clubs such as Fox Creek Golf Club, Magnetic Hill Golf Club and Royal Oaks Golf Club.
