Some flights are only operated seasonally and fill up quickly so booking as early as possible is necessary during the peak tourist periods.

When to Go and Weather

Arriving in Whitehorse

Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (YXY) is located about 5 km away from the city centre and, as it deals with a limited amount of air traffic, the airport remains closed between 1:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. From the airport, you will find the following ground transport services available from just outside the terminal building. For more details on any of these, check the airport's website.

Public Transit: Whitehorse Transit buses on Route 2 run between the airport stop outside the terminal building and downtown Whitehorse destinations from Monday to Saturday only. One-way fares are less than $3 CAD and discount tickets are available for seniors, children, and the disabled.

Hotel Shuttle: A few hotels in the area provide guests with a courtesy pick-up service as a part of their booking. Check with your hotel if this service is available before you board your flights to Whitehorse and confirm the location of the hotel shuttle's pick-up zone.

Taxi: A taxi stand is located outside the airport terminal building and a trip to the city centre will cost between $12-$15 CAD. You can pay by credit card or cash and those travelling from abroad can even pay with US dollars.

Car Rental: Norcan, National, and Budget provide rental cars at the airport. Follow the car rental signage in the baggage claim area to get to the company counters at the airport, or use the courtesy phones provided to ask for a shuttle to take you to the car pick-up areas.
