Athens Vacation Guide

As you stroll through Plaka's busy streets lined with the biggest designer stores and exclusive boutique brands, you will find it hard to believe that you're in a city that is over three thousand years old. Far from being just a relic of the ancient world, Athens effortlessly packages its impressive history and magnificent monuments with its modern architecture, fantastic nightlife, and extremely youthful vibe.

Sightseeing tops of the list of things to do in Athens so put on your hat and sunglasses and begin the steep ascent to the Acropolis and Parthenon. Once you've had your fill of the great views of the city below, wander down to Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Zeus, or make your way straight to Athens' more modern landmarks, such as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Parliament Building, centrally located Syntagma Square, or the dozens of cheap ouzo bars scattered around the Plaka area. From personal guided all inclusive tours to discount hop-on-hop-off bus rides, there are ways to see the best of the city's historic attractions that suit every budget from cheap to extravagant.

Between the spicy meat platters, aromatic breads, and potent drinks, a few meals here will be more than enough to make you wish your Athens vacations never had to end. If you can't bear to leave it all behind, stock up on some baklava to take back with you, and keep the memories alive for at least a few days more.

When to Go and Weather

All inclusive Athens vacations are a popular choice for tourists from across the world and there is really no time when you will find only a few visitors around. Temperatures soars to 35°C and above in the summer and with barely any shade at some of the city's best attractions, this is not a good time to visit if you're not used to extreme weather conditions. Despite the heat, summer is the busiest season for vacations in Athens so if you're not keen on the crowds, this is another reason to wait a while before booking a package holiday deal to city.

November to March constitutes Athens' rainy season and this is when there are marginally fewer visitors in the city. Spring and fall are better times to visit due to the cooler temperatures and lack of rain. If a summer holiday is an absolute must, plan an August vacation, as this is when the locals leave the city and holidaying families go home for the start of the new school year.
