From baseball and rowing to drinking games celebrating an Irish saint, fierce competition is in Boston's blood. Between its fascinating history, countless pubs, world-class performing arts, and incredible food, the one thing Boston won't have to compete for is your undivided attention.

Boston Vacation Guide

Boston is a city of notable firsts and, from subway systems to public libraries, it has paved the way for the rest of America for centuries. But if you think the city is all about history, you're in for a surprise when you book Boston vacations. Boston hosts the biggest St. Patrick's Day festivities this side of the Atlantic, and in keeping with its Irish heritage, offers visitors the best pub crawls on the East Coast.

Sports fans can pay homage to the Red Sox at Fenway Park or picnic by the riverside as they cheer on their favourite university rowing team at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Although its Beantown moniker has stuck hard and fast, the city serves up more than just baked beans and good food isn't far behind on the list of things that Boston does well. From its famous cream pies to the scrumptious clam chowder, you won't be able to get enough of Boston's signature dishes.

Trace your way through the history of the Revolutionary War at dozens of museums, monuments, and historic sites, indulge in every conceivable water sport, or enjoy opera, theatre, dance, and symphony performances at some of Boston's best venues. Don't think twice about visiting — with discount vacation packages and special offers, even a last minute trip can suit your budget and get you to Boston in just a few clicks.

When to Go and Weather

Boston attracts visitors throughout the year, although the majority of them book vacations to the city from the end of spring until early fall. While the school holidays and warm weather which peaks at nearly 26°C are the reasons behind the first half of the high season, the weeks around September and October are when schools and colleges are back in session and the hockey and football seasons begin. This means that students and academics return in droves to begin another year of study and sports fans gather to cheer on the Bruins and Patriots. So to get fewer crowds, a fair amount of good weather, and great deals on all inclusive vacation package deals, visit in early spring or late fall.

From November to February, Boston winters are cold and windy with rain and snow both making frequent appearances. While you may not get to enjoy the city's parks and outdoor attractions, there is still plenty going on indoors with theatre performances, music concerts, special exhibitions at museums, and of course, restaurants and bars galore. Cheap Boston vacations are easy to find round this time, and if you're planning on a last minute trip, this is the best season to do it in.

If you're planning a vacation in Boston around St. Patrick's Day, be advised that flights and hotels fill up very quickly and finding cheap deals will be difficult, even months in advance. No matter when you visit, be prepared to encounter all sorts of weather and dressing in layers is the best way to deal with the wind, sun, rain, or chill that can occur at pretty much any time during the day, and in any season.
