Spend an eternity here and it probably won't be enough to see all of Rome. Spend a few days here, and it will be more than it enough to fall in love with the Eternal City. Roman history is a major draw for tourists and while you may have every intention of making your way straight to the imposing Colosseum and beautifully crafted Pantheon, there's every chance you will be waylaid by the intoxicating sights and smells wafting your way from Rome's many cafes and wine bars.
However long your vacation lasts, don't miss out on a trip to the Vatican City where you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Pope, or at the very least a great view from the top of St. Peter's Basilica. And as far as people-watching goes, there's no place better than sitting in the city's piazzas with a cheap latte. From the Piazza della Repubblica to the Piazza Navona, Rome's public squares are special places whereyou will encounter teenagers chatting away on high-tech cell phones, young men checking out the competition, young mothers exchanging gossip and advice, and elegant matriarchs dressed to impress.
Toss your map out and enjoy summer evenings spent strolling through Trastevere's streets lined with cafes, trendy nightclubs, fine-dining restaurants, and perpetually-busy bars. In winter, Rome's Christmas Markets are brightly lit beacons that will draw you out despite the chill, and no matter when you visit, stop by the Trevi Fountain and toss a coin in, wishing that cheap vacations to Rome are always in the cards for you.
