Closer to Nicaragua and Costa Rica than it is to its South American mainland, the Colombian island of San Andres is a slice of heaven dropped into the azure waters of the Caribbean Sea. While the main town has most of the island's shops, restaurants, and nightlife, visitors can get a taste for the quiet life in La Lorna and San Luis which are smaller and don't have a hint of any bustle and commotion.
If your reason for booking all inclusive vacations to San Andres is to spend most of your time on the beach, keep in mind that the best ones are on the east of the island with only a few smaller ones to the north. Johnny Cay is said to be the ideal destination for snorkelers but if you find the crowds here a bit intimidating for your first foray into the underwater world, there are over 30 kilometres of coral reefs to explore all along the coast, guaranteeing you at least a spot or two for solitude and peaceful waters.
Before you leave, be sure to sample as much as you can of the island's fresh seafood cuisine and if you're looking to pick up gifts for those at home, you can get great deals at shops on San Andres as most things are much cheaper here than they would be on the mainland.
