Breaking the mould of either expensive spas or cheap and unsanitary salons, THE TEN SPOT has been changing the game since 2006. With a mission to make you feel like a ten, creator and CEO Kristen Gale is a star on the rise. Having received Canada’s top 40 under 40 award in 2017 she hasn’t showed any signs of stopping (or slowing down) anytime soon! Her beauty bar has been redefining industry standards with its services and staff. They offer laser hair removal, waxing services, facial/skin treatments, tinting and threading, and of course manicures and pedicures. Who says men can’t have nice feet too, right? Their experts will help you through any particular issue you may be having with a comforting know-how and charm. You certainly haven’t had an experience like this before! I highly recommend going to see what everyone’s raving about!

Hope for Wildlife

Do you spend hours and hours looking at videos of cute animals during the day? Well get ready to meet some new furry friends at Hope for Wildlife, a privately owned rehabilitation center for Canada’s wildlife. Some of these animals may be sick or injured, others may have lost their packs or groups and need a helping hand. Owner Hope Swinimer is the nurturing force that makes this dream possible as she’s been rehabilitating animals since 1995. The center even offers tours for visitors who’d like to learn more about the important work that’s being done. Just be sure to check their website for updated summer/winter hours before you go. I’d mark your calendar for their annual open house on August 25th too… There’s a lot of planning going into it and it’s bound to be a huge success!

Ovens Park

A true gem located in the coastal forest, Ovens Park is a beacon of the area’s natural beauty. With everything from hiking, camping, kayaking, and sea caves to explore, this is a nature-lover’s paradise! This area first gained attention during the 1861 gold rush and continues to captivate explorers of all ages to this day. The on-site restaurant is a welcome modern addition to the space, which features some of the best seafood you’ll find! What could make this even better? What about nightly live music for a really spectacular seaside evening. Take the family and spend a day reconnecting with nature – and each other! Don’t forget to check out the museum too to learn about the Indigenous significance of the land for the full experience.

With everything from fire breathers and acrobatics, to comedians and magicians this festival reflects everything I love about Halifax. A fun, varied, and passionate approach to living and celebrating its culture and surroundings – this festival has all of it. And even better is that admission is free so bring your whole group or family for a great night out! They’re even kind enough to provide full performance descriptions and schedule on their website so you can take a strategic approach. It’s a very popular event so it’s worth having a plan if you want to see many performances in the same night. Don’t forget to bring some cash to tip the performers for their stellar work and support the local talent!

Open since 1999 this gorgeous course has been driving a passion for the sport with both locals and visitors alike. This public course is a great way to get your dose of fresh air and sunshine during your trip to Halifax! Not a golfer yourself, then I’d recommend getting acquainted with the on site restaurant for a fresh food in a cozy pub-style atmosphere. If you’re as indecisive as I am, you can see what’s teed up for you on their online menu before you go. It’s sure to get your mouth watering before you even get there! It’s sure to be an experience you won’t FORE-get.
