Quebec City Flights Guide

With cheap flights to Quebec City, you can find all the atmosphere and charm of Europe without ever leaving North America. Quebecers are fiercely proud of their culture and heritage, and there is a great deal to be proud of. With its well-preserved historic buildings, gourmet restaurants, theatre festivals and events celebrating the city's European connections, Quebec City epitomizes French Canada in every way.

Old Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and serves as an open-air museum where you can learn about the city's tumultuous past. Even outside the Old City's walls, there are a multitude of attractions which deserve your attention. These include La Citadelle and the Plains of Abraham in The Battlefields Park, to name just a few.

Stroll along Quebec City's pedestrianized streets high above the St. Lawrence River, and see them come alive in the summer, with musicians, comedians, street theatre, and magicians almost everywhere you go; drink the cheap but potent caribou concoction at the Carnival so you can still feel your toes through the cold; or shop at the boutique stores on the Nouveau St. Roch. To crank up the novelty dial on your trip, check in for the night at the Hotel de Glace, Quebec's very own ice hotel. There are plenty of ways to spend your days here, but venture just outside the city limits and you will find some truly spectacular landscapes that make for great hiking day trips or ski holidays if you're taking a flight to Quebec City in the winter.

Booking Flights to Quebec City

Quebec City's main airport, Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB), is located about 16 km from the city centre. Airlines serving this airport include WestJet, Porter, United, US, Air Inuit, and Air Canada. Several budget and charter airlines also offer services to Quebec City, including Canjet and Sunwing.

You can get cheap flights to Quebec City from most major airports across Canada as well as international cities such as Cancun, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia. Most other international lights to Quebec City will involve a stopover along the way so be sure to check the waiting and transfer times between flights before confirming your tickets. For travel between France and Quebec City, Air Transat has seasonal direct flights from Paris and Marseilles.

When to Go and Weather

Summer is the festival season in Quebec and this is when Quebec City flights are most expensive. Cheap airline tickets are also hard to come by in February, when the city plays host to the Winter Carnival (Carnaval de Quebec) and despite temperatures as low as -10°C and heavy snowfall, Quebec is crowded with tourists from around the world. Winter temperatures can vary drastically during the course of the day, dropping almost 20°C within 24 hours, so dressing in layers is advisable if you're here during this time.

If you're looking to avoid the crowds, visit in spring or fall when the weather is pleasant and the number of visitors visibly reduces. That being said, there are smaller festivals and events throughout the year so you can book flights to Quebec City at any time of year and still find lots to do.

Arriving in Quebec City

Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is a single terminal airport, and the arrival area for all flights to Quebec City is located on Level 1. An information booth for ground transportation enquiries is also located on this level. The travel time from the airport to the city centre is about 25 minutes. Further details on all transport options can be found on the airport website.

Public Transit: The Réseau du Transport de la Capitale (RTC) bus service on Route 78 runs between the airport and the Les Saules bus terminal for a cheap fare of about $3 CAD. If you will be using the bus service extensively during your stay in the city, consider buying an unlimited-travel day pass for about $7 CAD.

Taxi: Taxis can be found outside the airport's main terminal building. If you prefer to have a cab waiting for you when your flight arrives, call ahead and book a taxi with one of the four companies registered with the airport. A trip from the airport to the center of Quebec City will cost about $33-$35 CAD.

Car Rental: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and National/Alamo operate rental car services at the airport. Follow the signs to the airport's administrative building where the rental company's have counters on the main floor. Booking in advance is recommended, especially if you're visiting during one of the more popular festivals. If Quebec City is your only stop, there is little point in renting a car as taxis are cheap and most of the Old City's attractions are within walking distance of each other.
