Bridgetown Vacation Guide
With all the afternoon teas, polo matches, cricket grounds, and even an erstwhile Trafalgar Square complete with a Lord Nelson statue, you won't be amiss in thinking you might be in England after all. But scratch a bit below the surface, and you'll find that with its constant calypso melodies and vibrant nightlife, Caribbean culture is alive and well in Barbados' capital.
Despite being the island's only city, Bridgetown is not so busy as to drive away tourists looking for some peace and quiet, and you can easily spend a pleasant day or two wandering through its historic streets and cobblestone alleyways. Whether you're a rum person or not, make sure you stop by the Mount Gay Distillery where the two-hour tour ends in the opportunity to develop your own special cocktails using the island's famous export. For bargain hunters, Swan Street is paradise. This pedestrian area is where cheap deals are easy to come by on everything from clothes, to shoes, to food, and plenty of touristy trinkets to carry home when your Bridgetown vacations end.
Temperatures in Bridgetown remain fairly consistent throughout the year, with daytime highs ranging from 28-30°C from winter to summer. The dry season here extends from December to June, but the high season continues only until April, making cheap package deals easy to find between May and early June.
Bridgetown receives most of its rainfall between June and October, and the period between September and October is when hurricanes are most likely. Although hurricanes rarely hit the island, it is worth checking the weather forecast before you travel just in case. All inclusive Bridgetown vacations will be especially cheap during this time, but if you're not used to high humidity levels, avoid travelling during this time.
