Italy makes it to most tourists' 'Must Visit' lists and thus far, no traveller who has experienced the country's incredible wealth of historic sights, scenic countryside landscapes, and mouth-watering cuisines, has ever regretted it. How to Save on Vacations to Italy

From family-run pensiones to five-star hotels overlooking the canals of Venice, vacations to Italy can span every budget from luxurious to low-cost and everything in between. Deciding on how much you want to spend and focusing on the hotels that offer the kind of amenities you want is a key aspect to finding a package deal that's right for you. Avoid choosing options that you're not likely to use, like catered meals, and experiment with the delicious local cuisines and wines instead. When it comes to ground transport, Italian cities are well connected by rail so it is cheaper to buy a Trenitalia rail pass than rent a car. And considering the infamous reputation of Italian drivers, the train may be a safer option as well!

When to Go and Weather

Italy covers some very diverse terrain and the weather varies quite a lot depending on which part of the country you're in. For instance, if you've booked your Italian vacation during the Christmas holidays, the temperature can drop to single digits (Celsius) in Milan while still remaining in the pleasant high teens in Naples. Generally speaking, Italy's summer months extend from July to mid-September, after which a short rainy season gives way to winter snowfall that lasts until February in some northern regions.

The climate is milder in southern Italy, and the islands of Sardinia and Sicily in particular enjoy good weather for most of the year, making it easier to find cheap vacations in this area no matter when you book. For the rest of the country, the off-peak seasons run from November to mid-December and again from January to March.
