San Salvador Vacation Guide
Spend a few days on vacation in San Salvador and you may start to wonder if you are indeed in one of Central America's smallest countries. This capital city is filled to the brim with excellent restaurants, bustling street markets boasting the best of discounts, cheerfully painted cars humming along in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and streets crowded with more people than you ever knew existed in this neck of the woods. If it seems all a bit too much at first, take a deep breath and ease yourself in. You will be glad you did.
San Salvador's boulevards were made for long afternoon strolls, there are dozens of monuments dating back to the country's colonial day at downtown El Centro, and for an evening of musical entertainment, you can find everything from choir performances to experimental jazz bands and cheap pubs playing punk rock. For all its reports of violence and unrest, taking a few basic safety precautions will have you equipped to explore the city at leisure. Locals here are friendly and will be happy to give you recommendations on the daily specials at neighbourhood cafes, give you directions to any of San Salvador's numerous museums, or chat at the bar of some of the coolest clubs you've ever visited.
The weather can have quite an impact on the kind of San Salvador vacations you will enjoy. The country's tropical climate means that rain will be a factor in your holiday no matter when you visit. Temperatures vary quite a bit throughout the year, ranging from the low 20s (Celsius) in winter to the mid-thirties in summer. The city is drier in the wintertime and all inclusive vacations to San Salvador are naturally more expensive from December to April. To get the best of weather and cheap deals on vacation packages, book a trip in the first two weeks of December of between April and May, when prices will be marginally lower and the rains won't disrupt all of your outdoor sightseeing plans.
Keep in mind that most establishments close during the Festival of El Salvador in August. If this is when you're travelling, make sure that the sights and attractions you're most keen on visiting are going to be accessible during your stay.
