When to Go and Weather

The best time to book vacations to Vancouver really depends on what you'd like to do on your holiday. If you're using the city as your base while exploring the winter sports facilities at Grouse Mountain or Whistler, prepare to deal with single digit (Celsius) temperatures which rarely fall below freezing, intermittent snowfall, and lots of rain. While there are events like the Festival of Lights held around this time, Vancouver is best explored in the summertime when temperatures remain in the warm 20s, loads of music festivals and cultural events are held throughout the city, and it seems like every outdoor sport imaginable is being practiced here. Unfortunately, this is also when most tourists choose to visit Vancouver, so if you're planning a last minute getaway to Vancouver, hotels and flights will not be cheap.

Visiting from March to early-June or from September to November will get you cheaper rates on all inclusive package deals, and a chance to catch the flowers blooming in spring, or take in the stunning mosaic of colourful leaves in fall. Temperatures will be cooler, between 14-21°C, and you should also come equipped with a jacket and umbrella to deal with occasional showers. But with fewer tourists around, you will be able to wander through the city and take in the sights and sounds at your own pace.
