Abeid Amani Karume International Airport formerly known as Zanzibar International Airport and Kisauni Airport is located 5 kilometers south of the city of Zanzibar. It takes around 8 minutes to get to the airport from the downtown. You can directly take a flight from Johannesburg Airport to Zanzibar Airport which takes 3 h 25 min. Mango, Precision Air and Kenya Airways offer flights from Johannesburg Airport to Zanzibar Airport. Another alternate option to get to Nungwi beach via ferry, if you are residing nearby Dar es salaam city then you can take a ferry from Dar es salaam Harbour/Ferry Port to Zanzibar which is a 3 hours journey covering approx 77 km of sea route till Zanzibar. After getting down to Zanzibar you can rent a car or hire taxi to get to Nungwi beach (60 km from Zanzibar ), approximate travel time is 1 hour 20 minutes. You can also brave a dala dala (crowded bus or lorry) which follow set routes and cost a fraction of the price of a taxi.
