Honopu Beach

One of the most remote shores in the world, Honopu Beach, located on Kauai’s Na Pali Coast, can only be accessed by swimming. This Jurassic-like wonderland features two coves, separated by a massive rock arch, and is set against towering 1,200-foot sea cliffs. If you’re an intrepid traveler, willing to swim the distance from neighboring Kalalau Beach, or an offshore boat, be sure to wear fins and check ocean conditions to ensure you don’t get caught in dangerous waters.

Getting There

If you plan to swim from Kalalau Beach, located in Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park, walk to the Southwestern-most edge of the beach, then start swimming Southwest, along the shore. There are also numerous boat charters and tours that will take you as close to the beach as possible. The park is located in Hanalei, which is a 50-minute drive from Kauai’s Lihue Airport. Direct flights from North America to Lihue Airport leave daily from Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and San Diego. A non-stop flight from Canada leaves daily from Vancouver, and European travelers can get one-stop flights from London, Istanbul, Moscow, Frankfurt, and Paris.
