Islas Marietas

Easily one of the most magical, fascinating beaches in the world, Islas Marietas rests under a yawning stone skylight that was created during military target practice in the early 1900’s. It can only be accessed by swimming through a 200 metre tunnel. As the clear water on this eccentric beach is protected from the surf, it is ideal for lazy wading and sunbathing. And, with only a few visitors allowed on the beach at one time, you will get to experience the exquisite scenery in an intimate setting.

Getting There

To get to this “Hidden Beach,” located in the Marietas Islands National Park, you must take a one-hour boat ride from Puerto Vallarta with a tour company. While there are also tours that leave from Punta de Mita and Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta offers the most options. You can fly direct to Puerto Vallarta from Mexico City, Los Angeles, Vancouver, and San Francisco. Non-stop Canadian flights leave from Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton. European travelers can fly, with only one-stop, from London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Madrid.
