Taipus de Fora,  Maraú Peninsula

Taipus de Fora is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil. For a country with 8000 kilometers of coastline that certainly is saying a lot. What makes Taipus de Fora so unique are the crystalline tidal pools. With coral reef bottoms these pools are rich in submarine fauna and are ideal for snorkeling. The Peninsula of Maraú has dozens of islands featuring waterfalls, mangroves and fascinating villages. Taipu de Fora is 7 kilometers long and features golden sand, dotted with giant palms making it one of the most popular spots on the peninsula.

Getting there

If you’re headed for Taipus de Fora, you will need to be prepared for an adventure. One of the reasons that the Maraú Peninsula is so beautiful is that it is so remote. This slice of paradise is situated in the state of Bahia, Brazil. It is 200 km south of Salvador and 150 km north of Ilheus. While Ilheus has a domestic airport the nearest international airport is in Salvador. You will need to make your way to Camamu either by bus, taxi or ferry. From Camamu you will cross the bay to Barra Grande from where you will hop into the back of a pickup truck to make your way to Taipu. Using flight search engines, you can find the best prices and the best times to book your journey from Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Calgary, Las Vegas and many more destinations around the world.
