Like many popular beaches, Ngapali started as a quaint but stunning fishing village and flourished into a must-see destination. Today, the white, palm-fringed beach is home to swanky resorts and refreshing bars. But, development hasn’t taken the soul out of this place. The local fishermen still reside here, going out daily on their colorful boats to bring back the freshest catch for visitors to devour and appreciate. It’s the ideal beach to visit if you want a little bit of exotic luxury with a whole lot of charm.
The recommended way to reach Ngapali Beach is via Bagan or Yangon, as other areas do not have the proper tourist infrastructure. Nyaung U Airport is the primary air entrance to Bagan. From there, you can take a flight to Thandwe Airport, which is the closest town to Ngapali Beach. However, these flights tend to be expensive and unreliable. It’s often easier to take a bus from Bagan to Pyay, then change buses to reach Thandwe. The most popular bus companies are Academy, Shwe Lamin, and Bagan Min Thar Express. In Thandwe, you’ll find it easy to flag down a taxi for the short ride to the coast. You can explore flight options with British Airlines, Air Asia, Alaska Airlines, Air India and many more.
